CORISSA BUENO-KANEI
CORISSA was a member of drill Team Hawaii for 8 years which was really
half of her life. She was always thought of as a smiling happy child no matter
what came her way.
When she was first diagnosed with cancer the team was totally in disbelief.
But she endured and made it through chemo, tubes in her chest and no hair, still
smiling everyday. She returned to drill and danced with all her heart even though
her drugs made her feel less than wonderful.. We all loved having her back and
were grateful for the blessing of her life. Now we are all without her and we
miss that smile, that happy heart and that positive sense of humor.
Her teammates say of her:
- Corissa was always so friendly and loving. She would always have a smile
no matter what. She taught me to live life to the fullest and never waste
a second with the ones you love. - Kimilyn G.
- Corissa always had a joke to tell , a great story for the day, and a
smile on her face. - Laurie S.
- I traveled with Corissa and had sleepovers when we were younger. Corissa
ALWAYS had a smile on her face. - Mikki T.
- Corissa always made me laugh. She made funny comments all the time and
would help turn a gray day, yellow! - Noelani N.
- My greatest memory of Corissa was when I got to be her partner at the
Utah Competition. At times she couldn’t make it to practice because
she didn’t feel well, but I was all the more happy and proud of her
when we were able to dance side by side at competition.
The year that I danced with Corissa was a wonderful time because I got to
know her. She was a happy and funny person. Most of all she was really kind
and nice to everyone. Whenever I would talk to her she made me laugh. I am
so glad that we went to Utah together because I really got to know her and
spend time with her. - Bethany A.
- Memories I have of Corissa will forever be in my heart. The thing I
miss most about her is her heart. She was very down to earth and always put
others before herself. She was kind and loved to dance. I will always remember
when I slept over at her house and we made up routines. We were Super Minis
at the time but it was so funny because we had no room and we kept knocking
things down. Sorry Auntie Clarissa! We laughed all night until we fell asleep.
I will miss her forever. - Jennifer T.
